I am a bit sad that the final performance for I’m Not Rappaport is today at 2pm. The cast party begins shortly afterward. For those of you who haven’t attended one of Center Player’s cast parties, imagine a video of the show, speeches, laughter, tears and, of course, plenty of food!
Although I’m Not Rappaport closes the curtain today for the last time, Center Players has been very busy planning
future productions. Rehearsals are underway for the next show, a 1940’s musical revue entitled Manhattan Serenade, which was written and choreographed by the talented Greg Brooks, who also stars in the production. Musical director Justin Ryan arranges numbers by Rodgers & Hart, Leonard Bernstein and Louis Prima. The show centers around three WWII soldiers on 24-hour leave in New York City who dodge their commanding officer while wooing, singing and dancing with their three lovely ladies.
I stopped by one of the rehearsals last week to say hello to the new cast and was impressed by what I saw. The book (the script) is infused with slang from the era, the dancing is Fred Astairesque. I spotted some period costumes and hats “to die for” and heard beautifully blended voices singing familiar charming tunes.
Show dates are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 11 to the 27th with no performance scheduled for Sunday, June 13th…because of my next bit of news…
On June 13th, Center Players is honoring company volunteers at a their Volunteer Recognition luncheon. I am impressed by Center Players’ board members, who make every effort to invite people to help out and reward them for their efforts with praise and thanks. As a new volunteer, I feel welcome and appreciated. Although I’ve volunteered for other organizations, this is the first one that truly believes in giving back to their supporters. I’m looking forward to it!
Finally, the news that my thespian friends have been waiting for! Auditions for Charlotte’s Web has been scheduled for Saturday, June 12 from 1 to 4 pm at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold. Check Center Players website for details. I will write more about it as audition day nears.
